Ready-to-install, easy-fit spherical roller bearing units
The sealed bearing units are equipped with an extremely robust and durable spherical roller bearing and installed in a housing of high-strength spheroidal graphite cast iron

The ready-to-install and easy-fit spherical roller bearings of the renowned manufacturer FYH – also known as the SRU (spherical roller unit) series – compensate angular misalignment, feature a high rpm range and ensure extremely high holding forces on the shaft. Another user advantage is the ease of assembly with low fault susceptibility.

The sealed bearing units are equipped with an extremely robust and durable spherical roller bearing and installed in a housing of high-strength spheroidal graphite cast iron. The rated loads are many times higher than those of standard housing bearings. The units are available as pillow blocks with two or four oval holes, which means they are exchangeable with two-part pillow blocks. Other types include a four-hole flange bearing with or without a centring shoulder (F and FC design) as well as insert bearing models with a shaft diameter of 40-100 mm.

A special feature of the bearing units is the self-aligning triple lip seal. The patented seal system is self-aligning within ±2° and therefore compensates misalignment and shaft deflection. Another feature of the spherical roller units is a special safety locking system called the Z-LOCK. It comprises a locking ring with a conical outer diameter. The unique even 360-degree contact surface achieves extremely high holding forces without damage to the shaft and without negative effects on the bearing clearance and true running of the bearing insert.

The most important advantages of the SRU bearings at a glance
• Also available as four-hole flange (F, FC) and insert bearing (T)
• Extremely high rated loads for reduced installation space
• New sealing system compensates angular misalignment of +/- 2°
• Integrated adapter sleeve can withstand high axial forces

Needle roller bearings by Findling: Specialists for high load carrying capacities with little installation space
In different sizes and designs, needle roller bearings are available from the Findling Waelzlager GmbH, Karlsruhe. Their distinctive characteristic is given by the thin cylindrical rollers. Through this bearing design, higher loads than with any other bearing can be achieved with a defined cross-section. Thus, needle roller bearings are mostly used for applications, where just a little installation space is available. Like for ball bearings, you have the choice between various types and designs. Therefore, the experts of Findling Waelzlager do not leave users on their own and surely give them advice and ideas for a technically and economically ideal decision.

Like for ball bearings, a distinction between bearings that support radial loads and those that support axial loads can be made. Radial needle roller bearings with or without inner ring just support radial loads and are designed for medium loads with intermediate speeds. They are used especially for transmissions and in generally in mechanical engineering. By renouncing the inner ring, installation size can be reduced additionally. In this case, the shaft serves as the raceway, though – to reach the complete load capacity, the shaft has to be hardened and grinded within the range of 58-64 HRC. This is also the case for needle roller and cage assemblies, which exclusively consist of cages and needle rollers. Here, bearings directly run on the shaft and the housing respectively.

However, axial needle roller bearings just support axial loads; this is applicable because of a solid cage, in which several needle rollers run safe. Here, you can also find various designs and components. Thus, axial needle roller and cage assemblies can be combined with different kinds of axial bearing washers, depending on load carrying capacity of the substructure. Multi row needle roller and cage assemblies for highest load ratings are used in axial piston pumps for example, while models with integrated washers are used in elevating tools and in ancillary components of track vehicles.

Finally, there are also needle roller bearings that combine radial and axial rolling elements. For lower axial loads, a combination of balls and needle rollers is proper (series NKIA/NKIB/NX/NKX); for higher axial loads, a combination of cylindrical rollers and needle rollers is most suitable (series NKXR). Combined bearings can be mounted in a quite uncomplicated way and are easy to handle. Additionally, less installation space is needed, because only one compact combined system instead of two separate bearings can be installed. Therefore, combined bearings are mostly used in applications, where installation space is limited.

Needle roller bearings in a full complement design do not have a cage. Fixation of rollers either takes place through self hold or through a tube, which is just pressed out by the shaft during the mounting process. Full complement needle roller bearings can be used in applications, where low speeds and extremely high loads occur.

Rolling Bearings’ Behaviour on the Test Station
ABEG Customers Benefit: Performance Investigation Hands-on-like

A logical consequence of each theoretical bearing calculation is the question of its practical reproducibility. Where the pure trust in formulas and catalogue information is not sufficient, test series must be driven. An expensive and time-consuming task - usually associated with capacity bottlenecks in the own laboratory. Findling’s customers have now access to a particularly flexible performance test station: Additionally to pure bearing life tests, product evaluation can also be realized by using regular operating conditions. Bearing technology is a broad field: Hundreds of producers offer thousands rolling bearing types and designs with different performance characteristics. Simple catalogues often provides insufficient information. So the image of a product depends directly on the market experience. "Trust is good, control is better," - true to this saying, users have to answer the question of the difference between mathematical efficiency according to the catalogue and effective performance of the application. In order to reduce expensive investigations and load tests, Findling Waelzlager make available to its customers the new rolling bearings test station. The ABEG method helps users to make a choice among four different performance classes.  Practically this will be done in the design phase, supported by the software ABEG Quickfinder. The optimization potentials which have been theoretically identified can now be demonstrated in a second stage using specific parameters on the test station. "Basically, switching to a lower performance class can generate large price advantages”, knows Uwe Leimenstoll from the quality management at Findling. „Consequentially this checking gets more significance and provides as well the evidence of performance capability."

Findling Waelzlager therefore relies not only on the catalogue data, but also investigates independently the performance capability of the products. For this, one specific rolling bearing test station was designed, tested and released conforming to the requirements of the benchmarking and also the bearings life calculation.

Leadership through Knowledge
In order to make transparent the whole global bearing range and also to offer its customers the most appropriate rolling bearings, the Findling Company developed the ABEG method, which divided the products on the worldwide market into four performance classes. For each one of them a life time coefficient is defined, which determine the minimum life cycle in accordance with the applicable standard DIN ISO 281st. So for example, a highest performance class bearing (Premium) must accomplish 100 percent of the normalized lifetime, for a bearing of the third class (Eco) only a 60 percent fulfilment is necessary. Not only the theoretical values – e.g. the catalogue information – can be documented, confirmed or corrected on the basis of practical data, but also reliable statements about the product behaviour at specific operating conditions can be made. Findling’s bearing performance test station answer reliably questions, like which life time or which load rating on a product A can be guaranteed, which life expectancy has product A versus product B, and how perform the product A in the concrete application scenario, also as a function of rpm, radial load, axial load and temperature.

The Factual Test

The testing station consists on two parallel worktables, each one equipped with two samples. Consequently four bearings are tested simultaneously in each run. The test load is applied radially through a lever system.  A device for the axial preload is also integrated, in order to increase the number of testable bearing types and load cases. In addition, an integrated oil lubrication system can control different temperature requirements by heating and cooling. The documented verification of the bearing state follows through surveying the increase of noise and vibration as well as the temperature variation in the outer ring area. It can therefore examine for example, how much earlier turned out product A versus product B under the same environmental influences? Which ABEG performance class guarantees the required minimal life time? Which maximum self-heating value has the bearing in my application scenario? Which consequences has the bearing heating on its noise behaviour? Which effect has the choice of lubrication on temperature and noise? Additionally to bearing tests for the customers, Findling Waelzlager makes use of the test station for continuously increasing quality as for monitoring its suppliers.
